Ron began his career in healthcare in 1989 when he enrolled in the massage therapy program completing his training in 1992. After running his massage practice for a few years he was accepted into the University of Saskatchewan school of physiotherapy where he completed his first year before being accepted into the College of Medicine at the U of S in 1996.. He was accepted into the U of S Regina campus Family Medicine Residency Training program after completing his medical degree. Once he was done his training initially worked as an emergency room physician for 8 years while also helping to develop emergency medicine education for medical students and residents in Regina. He moved on the hospitalist medicine where he continues his clinical practice today. During the last 10 years as a hospitalist he has worked on developing quality improvement knowledge and skills and was recognized for his work in 2017 by the Canadian Society of Hospitalist Medicine winning both the annual award for Clinical Excellence and the Excellence in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Award.
Ron has maintained his connection to the Western College throughout his medical career recognizing massage as the beginning of his health care journey. He helped design and teach the sport massage therapy course at the school as well as contribute to the creation of the colleges theoretical delivery model in Physiology .
Today Ron consults on curriculum, the medical industry and all pertinent aspects of patient care. More importantly Ron finds time to pursue more important things like travelling and gardening. He is an avid scuba diver and continuously looks to chase warm waters to explore. We are very fortunate to have such a driven, caring professional and life-long learner to help guide the direction of the Massage Therapy Program here at Western College.
